Question:

New email tickets sent to our support account are coming in with a "winmail.dat" attachment instead of any of the screenshots/photos or other attachments that might have been sent.

The email account that we use to forward to the Jitbit account is getting these attachments without issue. Once it comes into Jitbit seems to be were the problem starts.  Any idea what could cause this?

Answer:

This is Microsoft's proprietary email encoding format called TNEF.

Microsoft email software such as Outlook, Office 365 or Exchange may send mail messages in this proprietary format, that only other Microsoft products can read. Non-Microsoft products end up receiving these emails as "winmail.dat" attachment files.

Please disable that setting in your Outlook client (or in your corporate Office 365 or Exchange account).

In Outlook

1. Click "File - Options - Mail"
2. Select "Compose in this message format" list, select "Plain Text or HTML"
