Errors when importing assets from CSV

JitBit Helpdesk supports importing assets from CSV files. You can obtain such files by saving an Excel sheet as CSV.

To successfully import data from a CSV file, you must ensure that the file is in the right format. If the format is not observed, you may get an error. Here are the points to be checked.

1. NO HEADER ROW!

The asset export routine and the spreadsheet application will add the header row to the data file. Please open it in a plain-text editor and manually remove that row to prevent the incorrect format error.

2. Columns follow the right order; that's:

name, quantity, serialNumber, location, comments, manufacturer, supplier, type, custom-field, custom-field, ...

3. No empty values.

All fields must contain some value, i.e. no blank fields allowed. If you don't have data for some fields, fill the respective cells with "N/A" or "0" values.

4. If you've got semicolons as the delimiter characters, please replace them with commas.

5. If you've got quotation marks at the beginning and at the end of each line in your CSV file, please remove those quotation marks.

Once these points have been observed, your import should go through trouble-free.
