Password reset link not working

Question:

The password reset URLs sent in the reminder emails do not work and produce a 404 error.

Answer:

Make sure you have a non-empty "shared secret" specified in the settings, at "Admin - General settings". This key is used for many things, including the "autologin" links used for password reminders.
